Santa Clara Youth Ministry
Santa Clara Youth Ministry Program (SCYM) features many programs and opportunities for your teen or tween to grow in their Faith. Middle School Youth Ministry is centered around EDGE, a great blend of fun, social, and catechetical opportunities, which meets on Friday evenings at 7pm throughout the school year. High School Youth Ministry takes place primarily on Sunday evenings after the 5pm Youth Mass, consisting of Confirmation & Deep Classes, LIFE Nights, and other worship and social nights. To keep updated on activities, check out the SCYM blog here and Facebook group "SCDA Youth Ministry". Sign up via online registration beginning the weekend of August 13-14.
Confirmation is a 2-year program that prepares our 9th graders and above for the Sacrament of Confirmation, through catechetical study, Bible study, and small group discussion. Classes and meet twice a month on Sunday nights, as well as Life Nights, and online registration takes place beginning the weekend of August 13-14.
Youth Mass
Our parish features a Youth Mass on Sunday evenings at 5pm! This mass features lively music and we encourage the teens to become Lectors, Sacristans, Eucharistic Ministers, Ushers or Musicians/Singers.
LIFE Nights - LIFETEEN Programs
Our LIFE Nights are for High School Students and follow the Sunday 5pm Youth Mass. Our LIFE Nights are a special time for our high school students to fellowship together. We often have a theme and guest speakers to help foster fellowship and faith amongst our teens.
Youth Leadership
Particularly intended for Juniors and Seniors, this is an opportunity for students to grow in their understanding of Leadership, that to be great is to be last and servant of all, and to participate in planning, executing, and visioning for Youth Ministry at Santa Clara. The Fee for Youth Leadership includes leadership training and participation in one retreat.
EDGE
This fellowship and bible study program for our jr high and middle school students meets on Friday nights at 7pm. We offer special events and theme nights as well.

Service Opportunity: Blessed Sacrament - Extreme Makeover: next Saturday (12/17), 8:00am - 11:30am. A group of our local Youth Groups are banding together to renovate the Youth Ministry meeting spaces (and an office for their youth minister!) at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Westminster http://g.co/maps/r2u4y, starting at 8am and concluding by 12noon. Contact Greg if you are interested in attending. We also need adults to serve as chaperones/drivers. Please let me know if you can help. Frosty’s Village in Anaheim Hills (Big Lots Shopping Center) will donate $10 for every tree sold to Santa Clara Youth Ministry!! Just bring in the flyer, pick up a voucher and return it to the parish office. The Parish will turn in your voucher in exchange for $10! For those looking for a way to serve around the holidays (that will count as service hours as well!), there is an opportunity to help provide crafts for children waiting to receive Christmas presents at the Friends Outside Christmas Party through St Vincent de Paul. The event will be Saturday, December 3, from around 10am to 2pm. If you are interested, please email Greg or Maria McFarland mariamc19@sbcglobal.net, who will be coordinating the event. You will need to find your own transportation and bring a chaperone (parent or other adult over 25) with you to help. Confirmation 1 Retreat Information:
We will have a brief parent meeting to address the basics of the retreat for November 11th – 13th. The meeting will be this Sunday, November 6th from 8pm – 8:30pm following the Confirmation Class.
Transportation/ Drop off information: Boat transportation to Catalina will be provided by Catalina Express:
- Students will need to report to Long Beach on Friday, Nov 11 at 5:00pm.
- Students will return on Sunday, Nov 13 in Long Beach by 2:30pm (please arrive by 2pm to pick up your student in case the boat is early).

Confirmation 1: Just a reminder, a copy of your medical insurance card (front and back) is required for the Retreat packet. If you did not copy your insurance card, please bring in a copy to the LIFE NIGHT this Sunday evening.
Confirmation 1, 2, Youth Ministry:
1. LIFE NIGHT this Sunday 6:30-8:30PM (attendance required). "Alpha Omega": The Sacraments of Initiation. We'll be going deeper into the reality of participation in the life of Christ through the Sacraments. Food, games, and a time of Adoration: This is a going to be a great night!. Parents please remember to pick up your students promptly at 8:30pm.
2. Don’t forget to sign in…All students are required to sign their initials on the sign in sheet each week. Sign in sheets will be available at the back of the parish hall from 6:15pm – 6:40pm each Sunday session. Just see Marcie Pomeroy or Laura Wachter to sign in.

We are off to a great start and it seems everyone had a great time at last weeks Life Night!
EDGE: We will have class this Friday from 7pm - 9pm. We look forward to seeing you then.
Confirmation 1: We will have class this Sunday evening from 6:30pm - 8:00pm. Please remember your Confirmation 1 Retreat Packets are due no later than this Sunday evening. **Be sure to fill out the BSA Venturing Form at the back of the packet, as this pertains to our insurance coverage** This is a required event by the Diocese for all Confirmation 1 Students. If you are unable to attend our Confirmation 1 Retreat, you are required to find a Confirmation 1 Retreat at another parish. You will also be required to pay the Confirmation fee at the other parish and have a letter from that parish verifying that you attended the retreat. There is no reduction to the SCDA Confirmation registration fee if you do not attend as the retreat fees have already been paid for the required number of students. Don't miss out, this will be a wonderful and fruitful experience for your teen.

Confirmation I/Youth Ministry Fall Retreat, Catalina Island, November 11-13, 2011:
Confirmation 1 Students - Retreat Packets are due to the office no later than this Sunday, October 2nd. Please bring them to your class this Sunday evening. Marcie will be there to collect your packets. **Do not forget to complete the Venturing Form included in the packet**
Greg needs to know which Adult Chaperones and Youth & Young Adult Leadership folks are able to attend our November Retreat. I would like for as many of you to come as possible, especially those who are planning to work with the Confirmation I class and certainly those who might be helping with Worship. All the forms need to be turned in by this Sunday night, and we need to get everyone the appropriate online training, so please RSVP immediately.
Adult Chaperones (25 yrs and older) do not have to pay and Youth & Young Adult Leadership folks are covered under their Leadership Fees (but you need to register!). Forms are available outside the Youth Room at the Parish--Make sure you pick up the Adult Packet if you are over 18 yrs for the different Venturing Reg. I'm really looking forward to this event--at Catalina Island!--it's going to be a great time.
