Santa Clara Youth Ministry

High School Youth Ministry

Our SCYM Nights are for High School Students and follow the Sunday 5pm Youth Mass once a month for a dynamic gathering beginning with Mass, followed by a meal, and opportunities for community-building, faith-building, and fun through large group programs, Bible study, catechetical activities, and small group experiences. These are a special times for our high school students to fellowship together, with caring mentors. We often have a theme and guest speakers to help foster fellowship and faith amongst our teens, as well as small groups and ample opportunities for faith responses that fit the many personalities of our teens. A committed team of adults and young adults work together to vision, plan, and provide an exciting and welcoming environment, to help compliment the faith formation that takes place in the home.

Our teens are invited into full participation in our parish community and our weekly Mass. Many youth attend mass at 5pm on Sunday evenings, since we often have youth events on that night. Teens are welcomed to inquire and encouraged to grow in service as Lectors, Sacristans, Ushers or Musicians/Singers.

We also schedule social activities and service projects throughout the year. To keep updated on activities, check out the SCYM blog here and as well as Facebook page linked above. Registration begins mid-August.

Confirmation

The path to Confirmation at Santa Clara takes place in the context of Youth Ministry. Readiness for the sacrament of Confirmation is determined by the engagement of the youth in the life of the parish for a minimum of two years. Teens 9th grade and above seeking the sacrament of Confirmation are expected to attend 18 SCYM Night meetings and two offsite retreats, plus complete 40 hours of Santa Clara service. More information available here.

Middle School Youth Ministry

Our Junior High and Middle School students meet about twice a month on Friday evenings from 7-9pm for a fun and safe time of fellowship, tactile and engaging games, worship, teaching, Bible study and small group discussion. A committed team of adult, young adult, and HS youth leaders makes this a fun, safe, and dynamic way to grow in the faith, in concert with the formation that takes place in the home. We offer special events and theme nights as well.

Youth Leadership

Incoming freshman, sophomores, juniors, and seniors, who are baptized with 1st Communion in the Catholic faith, who have completed or are in the process of being confirmed, as well as a few other criteria, are invited to consider applying to join Youth Leadership at Santa Clara. This is an opportunity for students to serve the community of Santa Clara by exercising their gifts, time, talents, and acquired skills. Our commitment is to help continue to identify and grow those gifts, while pursuing Jesus' vision of leadership as service not personal power or attention. As they help participate in planning, executing, and visioning for Youth Ministry at Santa Clara, youth leaders are given ample opportunities for growth in leadership skills with an eye for becoming a leader not just at church but in their family, school, community, and life as well. There is a Fee for Youth Leadership, which includes training and materials.
